This extra special batch of our 10W-40 Imperial Stout was brewed with maple syrup, chocolate, vanilla, pink Himalayan salt, and lactose. Boasting huge notes of salted maple bar and caramelized sugar, this beer is incredibly smooth and chocolatey finish.

16 oz can ($3.69) with a canning date nearly 1 year ago.
Pours with an essentially black body that is topped by a light tan colored head that soon reduces to a durable thin ring.
A light vegetative aspect harm's both the aroma and the flavor. The maple is largely MIA in the aroma and quite subtle in the flavor. Lightly salty with artificial vanilla notes and a mildly bitter finish.
Feel. Smooth full body with light carbonation and some oiliness.
Overall. Disappointing.

This is a sugary, muddled mess. A touch of salt, but it doesn’t do much damage. There is no maple flavor at all. Just caramelized sugars. Mostly like a chocolate covered marshmallow.

A: Pours an opaque viscous jet black in color with a light to moderate amount of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint chestnut brown + dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a medium to large sized patch of very thin film covering a little more than 50% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel, and milk chocolate over the top of moderate aromas of dark + roasted malts with moderate amounts of lactose sweetness. There is also a light aroma of salty/brininess and coffee.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of dark + roasted malts with moderate amounts of lactose sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel, and milk chocolate as well as light flavors of salty/brininess and coffee. Very light amounts of roasty bitterness is present which fades away quickly leaving a lingering maple syrup, caramel, and lactose sweetness.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slick.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength and the booziness is well covered up by the sweetness of the maple syrup, lactose, caramel, and milk chocolate. Enjoyable but very sweet, definitely a dessert beer for me.

16 ounce can, no dating on it that I could find. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a dark brown/black color with about an inch tan head that didn't stick around for too long. Not much of any lacing, either. Aroma is mostly sweet, the brew smells like maple, milk chocolate, vanilla, salt, lactose, caramel and coffee. I think the taste is almost just like the aroma, but there's also some burnt/charred malt, woody and nutty flavors also noticeable. It's definitely a sweeter tasting brew, but not quite to the point that it's too sweet tasting. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think it's a good overall brew, but it's definitely geared towards those who like the sweeter tasting imperial stouts. Worth picking up!

Single 16oz can split two ways. Pours a rich black with reddish highlights at edges - scant short lived light brown/red head.
Aroma maple, chocolate, strong vanilla caramel note, coffee.
Taste is sweetened coffee, chocolate; vanilla sweetness with the maple verges on cloying caramel sugar.
Creamy medium full mouthfeel coating with sweet maple and milk chocolate. Better as warmed.

Pours a dark black no light getting thru just like a normal 10W-40 with a thumb sized coco head.
Aroma is roasted malts, light coffee notes, light coco and maple notes, some light sea salt with vanilla mingled in for good measure.
Taste is like a big stout roasted malts good coffee notes, coco with the added salted maple to add some even more sweetness and salted like vanilla in the finish. Overall a better variation then the German Chocolate which I though distracted to much from the wonderful base 10W-40 but I seem to be in the minority on this one. But I wouldn't mind having this one again even though I still believe I prefer the original.
Mouthfeel isn't huge a big medium with mellow carbonation.
Overall I like this variation more then the others I have had, still be rocking the original though as I purchase it every year it comes out so far.

A mighty fine desert brew from the Hi-Wire folk from a growler
via Jungle Jim's Eastgate in a snifter. This brew pours a robust
obsidian with thin cola highlights and a nice head of tan foam that
settles to a thick ring, thin clumping pool, and showcases some
subtle lacing. Nose of chocolate, coffee, maple, char, earthy malts.
Flavors surpass the nose with coffee and brulee notes over a
balanced maple and dashed with sea salt dunked in a fudge
brownie. Nice mouth feel; smooth, slick, light carbonation, full
body, and a rich balanced maple and chocolate finish with a
touch of salinity on the rear.
Overall a VERY nice brew that I resisted for awhile, but it is VERY
solid and worth trying.
Cheers

I tried this at the Daily Growler in Powell, OH. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that did not leave much lace. The scent had bold maple notes with roast highlights. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with salted sweetness foundation. The mouthfeel was fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a good beer.

The term subtle comes to mind while drinking this beer. The Salted Maple aspects of the brew are just that...subtle... in a good way.
This isn't one of those beers that's going to bowl you over with the overwhelming flavors of the adjuncts that they use. Instead, the salt and sweetness of the maple, chocolate and vanilla ride along a roasted malt base and bring only nuances of their flavors. It's tasty stuff. My only real complaint is the sheer lack of body here. It's not pilsner thin but this doesn't really strike me as an imperial stout. I would venture more along the lines of an American or oatmeal stout. With a little extra thickness, this could be super special. It's delicious but the lack of density really makes me wish it was a little heavier on the palate. As it stands, this is a good offering and I will recommend this... these guys do a terrific job of not overpowering the bass beer with the things that they throw into it. The flavors are always there but not overdone.
