16 oz 2020 can.
Appearance. Pours with a thick, essentially black body with dark reddish-brown edges, looking like motor oil with a thin, beige head.
Plenty of chocolate in this, as expected, yet it has some complexity and good balance.
Feel. Very full and smooth with light carbonation.

Pours a dark cola color with a substantial tan head that provides nice lacing. Really nice looking beer, if maybe not quite the gravitas of an imperial stout.

The nose is all chocolate - there’s milk chocolate, cocoa, and some dark chocolate notes as well, and a smidge of char.

The taste mirrors the nose - this is a chocolate bomb. If you don’t like chocolate, avoid this beer at all costs. If you like chocolate (and I absolutely LOVE chocolate), consider taking a second - or third - mortgage interest your house to ensure you can acquire all you need of this beer. The whole range of chocolate is represented here, and there’s a bit of char as well.

The mouthfeel is creamy, but again doesn’t quite have the “umph” associated with an imperial stout. But the chocolate - oh, that magnificent chocolate.

Pours a black like motor oil with a coco colored head that leaves some good lace behind.

Aroma is yep loads of chocolate, caramel sweetness, light nuttiness and still some coffee underneath the sweetness peaking its head out.

Taste is pretty much follows the nose good chocolate notes through out, good sweetness to go with it light coffee and and nutty hints smooth and easy drinking. Just some light bitterness in the finish to round it out espresso and hop mixture. Almost like dry coco powder also in he finish which makes it seem a little less then perfect.

Mouthfeel is big and descent for an 8% brew but light enough to go down easy. Smooth carbonation.

Overall a good variation if you like extra sweetness, think the original is still the best though.

Taking oil where no oil has gone before, Hi-Wire's 10W-40 stout series has undergone several renditions, this time venturing into the world of chocolate.

Dark brown and opaque, the Triple Chocolate 10W-40 releases a fully dense froth that gives the beer a whole heartedly espresso-like appearance. Its decadent chocolate, nutty and caramelized sells the chocolaty promises to the nose with relative ease. Caramel, pecan and whipping cream bring a malty sweet upstart that extends on the early palate like mocha heavy milkshakes.

As the sweetness rolls onto the middle palate, its simplicity turns to chocolate, light coconut and coffee to suggest the likeness of mocha candy bars with an Americano edge. Trending slightly bitter with a light soilish character, a moderate hop bite takes hold to reinforce the bittersweetness of chocolate and the earthiness of coffee. The roasted flavors disguise the taste of desserts as the robust stout character always wins out in the end.

Full bodied while still holding a suggestion of drinkability, its silky textures are lightened once more by the bitter earthiness of roast and hops. A long finish of chocolate, coffee and cream are highly suggestive of bittersweet chocolate with a sprinkle of dark roast coffee to finish off the session.
