Taking sour ale to the smoothie side, Hi-Wire ramps up their Smoothie Sour series with a refreshingly tart ale piled high with blueberries and peach with a soothing creaminess from milk sugars and vanilla.
Pouring a hazy and pinkish mauve, Blueberry Peach Milkshake crowns with a slight peach-stained froth while offering a soft and fruity perfume with hints of fruit must and dough. Similarly to taste, the delicate fruit sweetness is accompanies with an early maltiness of sourdough, taffy and sweet cream.
As the fruit flavors unfold on the middle palate, the peach and blueberry pull from a cobbler-like medley and offer a bright and ripe fruitiness. With the hint of vanilla and cream, a creamsicle character pulls the fruits together and sells the character of smoothie well. Trending musty with a hint of wine and sangria, the final flavors are an off-sour tartness with a snappy vinous character.
Medium bodied and trending dry, the beer seems heftier because of its moderate acidity and its use of vanilla and lactose for fuller, plumper flavor. Finishing off-dry, crisp and refreshing, this Sour Smoothie extends with a brief sangria and creamsicle character.
