It’s our party and we’ll make the most beautiful barrel-aged blend of beers if we want to. It’s been 10 wonderful years making beer for you all and to celebrate we went big and bold. “Ten Years of Hi-Wire” is a blend of Bourbon Barrel-Aged 10W-40 Imperial Stout, BBA Barleywine, and BBA Belgian Quad. The resulting amalgamation is a balancing act of decadent & sweet chocolate, roasty malt, toffee, and dark fruit notes with some soothing heat and charred oak imparted from the barrels. Here’s to 10 more!

Poured from a 16oz can into a New Belgium Globe Glass

The beer pours a very deep brown (nearly black), when held up to the light you can get just a hint of a mahogany highlight peeking through. A fairly aggressive pour yields about two fingers worth of tan head that slowly recedes into a crown that lasts the remainder of the session and a moderate amount of sticky lacing.

There is alot going on in the aroma; roasted malts, bourbon, caramel, toffee, vanilla, and hints of fig, cherry, and chocolate.

The taste, similar to the aroma, is complex and inviting with roasted malts, bourbon, chocolate (more prevalent in the taste than in the aroma), caramel, vanilla, dark fruit, and a subtle charred flavor that grows as the beer warms. There is also a mild booziness that compliments the big flavors well. Medium/Heavy bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall, this is a very good beer that plays on the strengths of the base beers that are blended to make up this terrific 10 year celebration beer.

16 ounce can, no dating I noticed on it. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this! Served in a chalice, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch tan head that stuck around a while. Good amount of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, dark fruit, dark bread, bourbon, toffee and some blackberries. I think the taste is similar to the aroma but with more of a kick. There's the addition of some vanilla, oak, fudge and fig flavors noticeable too. No complaints here, but seems more like an imperial stout/quad blend to me since that's what stands out to me more. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit creamy with a good amount of carbonation. Overall I liked this brew, definitely worth picking up if you come across a can or 2!

16oz can with an illegible batch stamp, but 07/05/2(?) is there. Poured into a Duvel glass at fridge temp 10.2% ABV per can. The beer pours dense, very dark brown approaching black. The head is medium brown in color and settles to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Web-like lacing coats the glass. The aroma is moderate in strength and hard to pin down. Bourbon, then caramel, then earthy dark chocolate. The taste is bittersweet with roasted malt and various toasted malts all in play. Flavors include bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, fudge, caramel and even some dark fruit. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Alcohol is there but never harsh. Overall, very good.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This monster of a brew pours a dark blackish brown
with a very nice head of pale tan foam that settles to a thick ring, thin layer, and sports
some nice soapy lacing. Nose of faint faint bourbon, brown sugars, toffee, subtle
astringent booze, and various dark fruits. Flavors nail it! Dark brown sugars, toffee,
bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark berry notes of blackberry and cherry, fig and faint bread,
herbal hops, brandy, and subtle vinous notes. Mouthfeel is medium. smooth, warming,
medium light teetering on light carbonation, and a moderately dry finish.

Overall-----Excellent!

Cheers

Pitch black with a brown tinge and a half finger of brownish head. It smells of coconut, bourbon, barrel, aging, chocolate, and coffee. Medium thick body with moderate carbonation. Excellent brew! Get your hands on this if you can! Drinking in Waynesville, North Carolina, August 3, 2023.
