Calling more than just all hop heads, Hi-Wire Brewing is also calling all pot heads with a spring IPA that's best suited for sitting at home, bag of cheetos, in hand and watching wall-to-wall basketball.
Glowing a general gold hue while shining through a diffused glow, Slam Dank lives up to its namesake with a pungent, frgrant, citrusy and downright dank scent that's of the ilk of patchouli and cabbage. However a sweeter tone introduces the ale to the tatebuds with the softness of honey, wafer and light bread.
As the sweetness lifts and slowly carries away, the hops roll onto the middle palate with a less rife taste than the aromas once showed. Instead, a citrusy taste of white grapefruit, bright oranges and a pep of lemon bring a racy citrus character while more tropical impressions add succulent pineapple, passionfruit and kiwi flavors. While the ale trends gently drier, the hops develop a pleasant bitter-leading taste of spruce, cedar, herb and hemp as expected.
Medium bodied and sharing a more midwestern balance to IPA, the body and balance seems of more traditional bitter beer but its hop profile is newer, fruitier and softer than usual- siding with more hazy flavors. Its a good IPA that's less dirty than most hemp-forwrad ales.
