Amazingly light hopping for an IPA: all early-stage buttering, minimal aromatics or florality. The upshot is the very pale, hardly-sweet malt profile this permits Prairie Shaman to exhibit—whereas a largesse of hops often demands a big, bold malt backbone for support. The result is a very clean, cleansing, crisp ale that does feel somewhat ceremonially "English": not just a nod to the origins, but an earnest attempt to use hops for bittering preservation, and not as a showcase flavor. The nose is all booze, but the abv is hidden everywhere else. A very surprising, uniquely enjoyable ale—with heaps of bonus points for those two qualities.
