This chocolaty "Dark Ale" style beer is brewed with toasted coconut flakes and tastes kind of like a chocolate covered coconut candy bar!

Pours a thick black color. 2 1/2 finger tan head. Retention is not the best, but for a 11% beer, the retention is decent. Some lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The nose is not too strong. I do get a hint of coconut. I get a hint of lactose. I get a hint of chocolate. I was expecting more in the aroma department.
Taste - Lots of coconut in the flavor. There's chocolate also that mixes in with the coconut.
Deep, full, thick bodied. It's a strong beer, but doesn't have hardly any alcohol burn.
This is one full bodied beer. Maybe only lacking in the aroma.

This crowler says 11%

Tan head. Black color.

Lots of coconut. Fudge and chocolate notes. Boarderline liquid mounds bar. Very flavorful with a medium body which makes it easy to drink.

I had this beer a few years ago at the taproom in Moorhead, liked it, and always wanted to try it again. This time the beer comes from a crowler that was filled '1/28/19' (followed by the stamp of "SURFs UP"). This canning run is marked for ABV% as 10.4.
Dark cola brown colored brown, which is quite opaque. One finger of tan head, with varying bubble sizes. Leaves behind a good webbing of lacing.
Aroma is dark malts and chocolate, with a lighter whiff of sweetness that may be the coconut.
Taste is dominated by the chocolate, and not much coconut is expressed. Mild bitterness at the end. Also has a bit of dark fruit twang.
Medium plus mouth feel. Good carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden.
Of course this edition is not as good as what I remember from the taproom, but the beer is not terrible. I just wish more coconut in the smell and taste. I will try another round when the beer is brewed again.

Pours very dark brown, almost black. Smells like toasted coconut, and vanilla cake crust. Tastes like toasted coconuts, raisins, chocolate chip cookie, and a sweet maltiness. Solid beer.

Wow... Amazing black ale. The chocolate flavors up front follows the nose and add a light tartness, complex flavors of dark chocolate malt, molasses, burnt brown sugar and coffee. Finish is all coconut and burnt dryness. Slight cherry on the finish while lingers with the coconut. The feel is thick and medium-heavy body with low carbonation that leads to a thick and chewy mouth feel that continues into a creamy velvety finish. By far one of most underrated porter/stout/black ale's in the world in my opinion.
