a really great beer, but so is the base, and i think the time in the barrels has let some of what makes this interesting and unique fade out a little bit, and some of its best features are perhaps obscured a little by the whiskey. that said, im not complaining and this is awesome, definitely one of the more natural peanut or peanut butter profiles i have known in any beer, its like the real nut, little papery red skins and all, both in aroma and flavor, it doesnt taste like that dehydrated powder stuff, which to me always tastes cheap and artificial, this is bold and natural and really cool in that regard, just a little less dramatic than in the original from what i remember. some nice weight to this malt base too, wow its strong and rich and truly heavy feeling on the palate, king size in more ways than one! i like the vanilla note in the whiskey and the light wood accent here, the malt character is obviously still retained, chocolate and coffee elements as well, all in service of this peanut complexion it seems. smooth feeling for how big it is, sweet and boozy too but not overly so in either regard, surprising really for what this is. whiskey breath at the end, but overall an awesome beer, truly one of a kind. i want to have this side by side with the base beer to compare!
