For all the whiners out there who don't want fruit, desserts, or haze in their beer, this one's for you. It's a Double I.P.A. in the classic West Coast style, featuring experimental hop #06297 from Hopsteiner.

Surprised to see a 750ML can of this hanging around a full couple of days after arriving in the Twin Cities – Junkyard stuff has been flying off the shelves like free BMWs. Can dated 12/19/18 split with my wife.
The pour is orange, but not hazy, which leads me to rub my eyes in abject confusion. This is an IPA circa 2019? The nose is sweaty swamp loggers, citrus, & plenty of malt sweetness. It’s like even a West Coast IPA can’t escape the North East.
Big Manchild seems to be seeking an identity (may I suggest Rumspringa?). Rotting vegetation, which people might call ‘dank’, is way too strong, & generally drives away fish under the ice. Mixes weirdly with the citrus, too much malt sweetness, & generally lacking in bitterness. Two or three ounces, at 34 degrees, would have been preferable.
I’m not sure what the brewery was aiming for here, but this is not a West Coast IPA, not a good beer, & not something I’m going to finish. Drain pour.

Pours a mostly clear golden color with a thin white head. Smell was dank with citrus hops with melon notes . Taste had dank weedy hops mixed with light passion fruit, some melon husk notes of tropical fruit. Mouth feel was sweet and dank with hops not so bitter for a WC style. Tough to finish this 750ml as are most Junkyard brews.

Poured from crowler into glass. Fill date marked as '12/19/18', followed by 'KRY BABIES'.
Slightly cloudy, pale gold colored body. One finger of white head reduces back to thin cap. Leaves behind a bit of scattered lacing.
Aroma is sweet citrus, also slightly dank and vegetal.
Taste is sweet citrus, and closest to pineapple. Also has a sharp floral and mineral quality. Bitterness level is minor.
Medium mouth feel, with some stickiness. Good carbonation.
I don't get the West Coast style description, because the bitterness is lacking for the style. The slightly unknown flavors must be due to the experimental hop used. Good to try but one of these is enough.
