This Barrel Aged Barleywine was aged in Sagamore Rye Whiskey barrels for 9 months. It has powerful aromas of sweet cherries & honey and an overall overt warm booziness throughout. Flavors of caramel and molasses up front, peppery baking spices to follow, and a strong, malty sweetness at the finish reminiscent of raisins.

Pours a dark copper color with a thin white head. Smell was burnt molasses ,dark fruit and raisins. Taste has a nice barrel presence that is integrated well with ,roasted malts ,toffee and fruits . A sweet mouth feel that hoppy and fruity with a whiskey finish,

Poured from crowler into glass. Fill date is stamped as '1/21/19', followed by 'FORMaNS'.
Cloudy, amber brown colored body. Initial pour yields a one finger off white head, which sticks around as a creamy cap. Strings and spots of lacing are left behind.
Aroma of roasted malts, and sweet with caramel and molasses. Rich with dark fruit and banana. Some spicy barrel notes.
Taste expresses more alcohol than does the smell. Full of roasted malts with caramel and toffee. Has dark fruit (date and raisin) and even a little purple grape. There is a woody note from the barrel. Also banana and dark bread. Slight spice from the rye barrel.
Medium plus mouth feel, with slight stickiness. Good carbonation.
Strong barleywine, with the high ABV%. Barrel aging has added some spice and a wood note. This one is a sipper.

Poured from crowler. Attractive barleywine with a finger of dense head. It is dark and a bit murky. Strong caramel and bread notes. A little weak on the barrel in both aroma and even more in the flavor. The flavor is also hampered by an almost wet cardboard/stale taste. Strong alcohol flavor and heat. Robust body and nicely carbonated.

This beer pours a murky, muddy brown with a solid head. The aroma is classic barleywine, with rich malts and notes of caramel, barley syrup, banana bread, date, and molasses. The flavor is assertive when cold but mellows beautifully as the beer warms, with lots of nutty walnut and pecan, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, banana bread, and vanilla, with some hint of piney, bitter hops. The mouthfeel is full with foamy carbonation and some stickiness at the finish. Overall a very well done barleywine - so glad they decided to brew this, one of my favorite styles. The barrel is present but does not take over, which is nice. Only real ding is the very muddy appearance - certainly sought after for the hazy types, and little unappealing here.
