Italian pilsner is not a real well defined style, but the simple answer is that Italian pilsners are German or Czech-style pilsners that have been dry-hopped with European hops for maximum aroma, without imparting bitterness. In this crisp and effervescent beer, dry-hop additions of Saphir and Callista contribute flavors of mango and tropical citrus as well as elements of spice.

It’s namesake, Universal Exports, is the oft-mentioned fictional import-export company which acts as a cover for James Bond in the Ian Fleming novels and Bond film series.

Canned 2/24/23 (3 month ago)

Appearance: Pours a completely clear, light golden color with a mild white head. SRM of 7. (3.50)

Aroma: Strong aromas of lemon citrus, tropical fruit, some floral and grassy hops. Pay amounts, yeast and grains underneath. (3.75)

Flavor: Strong flavors upfront of floral and tea qualities. Some hints of tropical fruit and citrus before a tasty and earthy malt finish. Some tea lingers after finish. (3.50)

Feel: Medium bodied, average carbonation finishes smooth and leans dry. (3.75)

Compared to Evil Twin Greenhouse Hoppy Pilsner Conditioned on American Oak Foudre 5/2023: Pours lighter, milder head. Milder aromas. More tea flavors. Similar tropical fruit. Lighter.

Compared to Crooked Stave New Zealand Pilsner 6/2023: Pours lighter, milder head. Milder aromas. More tea, earthiness. Less fruity and complex. Winner: Crooked Stave

Overall: A decent version of an Italian Pilsner. The European hops give a floral and tea like flavor. Sort of overwhelms a bit with the tea. Hoppy and decent. (Rating: 3.64)

16oz can. Label is stamped 'PKGD 2/16/23'.
Clear, straw colored body. One finger of white head, which sticks around for a spell. Leaves behind big webs of lacing.
Aroma has some hops, which are fruity citrus in expression. Also a good base of toasted malts. Good bouquet.
Taste is grounded by the toasted bread malts, and then expanded with the floral and fruity hops. Sweet and refreshing.
Medium mouth feel. Has a dry finish. Crisp and clean. Very good carbonation.
Hoppy and fruity Italian style pilsner. Very little bitterness, very little sulfur. Thirst quencher.
