We aged this barleywine for 6 months in freshly dumped Willett Rye barrels. Aromas begin with notes of golden raisin and orange zest. Flavors of raisin, fig, and bourbon are complimented by an overall warming spice.⁣

This is the 2020 version.

L-Russet red color...no head

S-Vanilla, figs, raisins, blackberries and oak.

T-Very similar to the aroma...rich with the vanilla and nougat.....nice impressions of figs and raisins as well.

F-There is some heat to this...a good boozy impression but also a sharp alcohol laden one as well.

O-This is a dandy. Never picked up on any spicy notes but that's ok because this drinks fabulously.

Bottle. Khaki tan head with lace. Amber autumn orange color.

Nice and warming rye whiskey notes. Figs, vanilla, toffee, caramel, raisins, plums, and red apple skins. Touch of orange peel.

Smooth, warming, full bodied. This is a solid BA bw. Complex and enjoyable.

Clear, bright ruby coloring, slim head.

In the nose: Sweet and malty, Cherry and vanilla, oak flavors, whiskey aplenty. Lightly burnt. Leather and fruit. So much of muchness.

In the mouth: Dark fruits. Grape, plum, fig, with an edge of brandy. Brisk and brilliant. Full in the mouth, long, rich, ridiculously rewarding finish. Little bit of spicy character rolling on top the whiskey flavors. So very wonderful.

God damn, this is pretty near perfect. I've been sitting on this for nearly a year, I think, and I wish I had bought another. I need one bottle to write about, and wish I had another to share with friends some day. This is definitely one that can keep for years and years and years.

Final verdict: Certified Yum a dum dum.

Burnt orange tinted brown body with an initial beige cap. For the taste: great rye barrel without being boozy, toffee, date, golden raisin, molasses and barley all meld together. Nose is more booze, barley, and rye centric. Barley, oak, and rye shaped the feel the most, warm but not boozy. Love how the rye and barley stood out so much in all aspects

Hugely sweet caramel, raisin, coconut, and whiskey up front. The barrel notes carry over into the finish. Lots of bitter citrus rind plus a little pine needles and an oaky tingle make for a very satisfying finish. The aftertaste is the best kind of boozy hop candy. Very, very good overall, almost up there with the very best barrel-aged American barleywines like Flying Mouflan (:cry:miss you), Central Waters, and vintage Bigfoot.

A: The beer is very hazy caramel brown in color. It poured with a quarter finger high light beige head that gradually died down, leaving a narrow collar of off white bubbles around the edge of the glass and some thin patches of bubbles on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of bourbon are present in the nose. Hints of rye become noticeable as the beer warms up.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of bourbon with notes of dates and figs as well as hints of spicy rye.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is some warming from the alcohol in the finish.
O: The bourbon and fruity flavors of this barleywine aren't overly strong, but is very drinkable and does a very good job at hiding any traces of alcohol from the taste.
