I'm a fan of really hoppy west coast IPAs, but this one just didn't do it for me. It was just too bitter and piney without any of the wide variety of fruitiness that you expect from really well done west coast IPAs like Pliny, Torpedo, Union Jack, Sculpin, etc. All IBU and no fruitiness in a field crowded with spectacular brews.

This is actually one of my favorites from Santa Clara Valley Brewing. It was the beer that popped my cherry at scvb. Like most of the beers I have had from here it has a firm malt presence that is not unpleasant. Hints of caramel are aligned just right for the murder scene of hops that is used to brew it. An all time favorite I suggest to anyone that is looking for a good brew from San Jose.
