The color is a true copper, not what sometimes gets called "copper." It's very clear, too. Not much head, but the lacing has some duration, even though it doesn't truly cling to the side of the glass.
The smell is a berry pie, with both huckleberries and blackberries present. There's crust and all, and the sweetness isn't overpowering. There's also some honeyed butter, although it's not strongly lactic in character. There's some apple cider scent as it warms up.
The first taste is concentrated berry tartness. The mellow, buttery malt that is present in so many brews from this place is certainly here, as well. Rhubarb, with the accompanying bitterness – remember how much sugar it takes to make a good rhubarb pie? – shows up with some time out of the fridge. This is perfect for a winter evening digestif. I think it's sweeter than what it seems on first taste, but savoriness and non-hop bitterness balance everything out. Medium-high intensity of taste.
Feel is somewhat under-carbonated, although the weight is nice and moderate. The flora flavors could stand to hang around a bit longer.
