Served chilled in a snifter.
Best before: July 2013 (Consumed in May, reviewed from notes).
A massive thanks to my buddy Guillermo for bringing this back from Argentina for me!
Appearance: Germania Negra pours quite a lot darker than I expected - it appears almost pitch black in the glass, however a back light reveals beautiful deep red highlights. A rough pour yields a large light tan coloured head that lasts fantastically well and coats the glass in thick sheets of lacing as it recedes.
Smell: The nose here is quite nice - roasted malt and a little chocolate are noted right off the bat, with some caramel and a grainy character emerging with warming. As the beer approaches room temperature, a strange fruity note appears and detracts somewhat from the other notes.
Taste: As the nose suggested, this is a solid stout. Flavour notes include: A little roasted malt, toasted grain, a little chocolate and some fruity notes.
Mouthfeel: The body is light or just over and the carbonation is of a medium level, but could be smoother.
Overall: A solid stout from Argentina! Thanks again to my buddy for bringing this one back for me.
