Pours a cloudy ruby red, topped with a one finger light-tan head, leaves webs of lacing.
Spicy - clove and cinnamon, almost a Belgian Wit like aroma, toast and floral notes.
Spicy - nutmeg and clove, seems a lot like a wit/weizen blend to me mixed together but somehow strenghtened at the same time, some caramel, wheat, grape and light cherry. Toasted wheat bread base, with fruit jelly.
Light-medium bodied.

Color is a cloudy amber with a thin layer of tan-colored head that manages an impressive quantity of lacing on the glass. Aromas are very nice: cinnamon, spices, fruity esters...quite a boisterous "wheat ale" to say the least. Flavor is also different than expected: there's a spicy zest to it, with the cinnamon carrying over into the flavor, with some bubblegum-like flavors as well. Only token levels of hoppy bitterness here. Great finish: dry, with a whiff of oaky-smoky to complete the profile. Smooth on the palate and very, very drinkable. Most impressively well-done, Dann!

Had on tap at Anam Cara. Body is dark red / amber brown. The smell is like a weizen, fresh and citrusy. The flavor is much like a weizenbock, a good blend of a hefeweizen but with more of a roasted malt presence. There is a lemon kick and a solid bitter hop finish that gives it a good character.

Had this on-tap at the Tap duting the big brew-a-thon. My notes say 5.5% for some reason. Anyway, cloudy rust-belt color (I tried out the words blood-like color on some BAs, and that went over like a lead balloon). The faint tan head left rings on my glass. Powdery nutmeg/cinnamon/anise in the aroma came up against double bubble in the aroma. Tastewise, there's a musty, powdery sensation in the full mouthfeel. I am also experiencing a tangyness, a drying sensation, and a somewhat woody finish. David thought it was a bit Aventinus like, although I don't drink those, so cannot confirm. Very interesting, outside of my normal beer drinking favorite styles.

Had this baby on tap at Anam Cara while watching a sad pitching performance by Tim Wakefield during a Red Sox/Orioles Game.

Anyway, so it poured a translucent somewhat cloudy reddish body with a small tan head.

The taste was quite interesting. Medium bodied with all sorts of flavors mixed together. A sweet malt flavor with some cinnamon, malt, yeast, fruit, apples, pears, spice, phenols, and wheat. A mild bitterness and hop flavor are present but just sit nicely in the mix behind the bigger sweet fruit and spice flavors.

Not really an easily defined style. It sort of reminded me of a big spicy holiday ale mixed with a Belgian wheat and some touches of German weis. Overall a very yummy beer

Wielded a hammer and sickle with this one on 9/19/2004. ?-oz. pour at Anam Cara in long-stemmed glass, pre-Pedro vs. Mussina.

Huge billow of creamy head to start, with settling, gentle lace for the remainder. Murky brown and erotically dark hue, almost cidery in appearance. Bouquet has a frenetic spice composed of light cinnamon, white pepper, and a hint of Chinese five spice with lemon rind and tinny malt. Caramel, treacle, and flagrant jam of malt to taste are the first hints that this is yet another fantastic, and boundary-pushing, Tap offering. A finishing candy apple sweetness made me consider sitting even longer at Anam Cara and ordering another.

The gentleman next to me, also drinking one, stated that it reminded him of kvass. In my case, it reminded me of days spent building sand castles at the beach; running head long into a pitch black, snow-filled Maine night and laughing maniacally; and a myriad of other smile-inducing memories.

Sampled on tap at The Tap. I was lucky to be on hand when this ale first went online at the bar.

This ale poured a hazy, cloudy, tan-red-amber color with creamy, off-white foam that settled but clung to the glass somewhat. The smell was a wonderful explosion of cinnamon, cloves, and other phenolic aromas together with a touch of banana fruitiness, wheat, and a touch of sweetness. The taste was a slightly sweet flavor with a strong cinnamon flavor up front, followed by cloves, malt, and fruitiness that was comprised of subtle flavors of banana, apples, pears, and grape skins, and finally there was a strong phenolic clove flavor in the finish. There were some hops in there, too, but they were hard to pick out of all the complexity in the flavors. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium body and moderate carbonation. The spicy phenolic flavors lingered on the tongue. This was an excellent ale, and I drank 4 pints in a row I liked it so much. It defies styles, but it is like a hefeweizen on steroids.
