On tap @ Redbones 5/31/06. Served in a pint glass.
For a locally brewed Vienna Lager, the obvious comparison is SA Boston Lager. This beers blows SA out of the water. What I love about it is the malt characteristics. Sure, it is wonderfully hoppy for a Vienna-style lager, but the maltiness is incredibly smooth. The malt is the backbone of the beer, and, while the hops dart out in also directions of the mouth, the clean maltiness ultimately controls the taste.

I was told by the server that this Vienna Lager was their second batch. They had noted that it sold very well the first time. I'm not sure of their intent to make this seasonal or permanent.
The beer is a beautiful clear copper color. Served in a four ounce glass, there was no head or lace.
Mild crystal malt smell, inviting.
Flavor: more hoppy than the smell indicates. Nice chewy malt flavors yet still dry. Nice blend of flavors, although this is perhaps the hoppiest Vienna Lager I've had--the finish is all hop. Great mouth feel: full and crisp, strong carbonation.
This is an intriguing beer for me. It defies catergorizing. In my notes, I wrote, "worthy of another". In short, thumbs up.
