Both Alewife and I had the day off today, so we swung by The Tap for some lunch and brews. A doppelbock on tap? Come to Papa!!
Served in a slender, 12oz pilsner style glass, this DBock was a clear, medium-dark copper color. Some carbo was meandering upwards, trying to add to a thin, tan head. Most of the bubbly action tended to head to the rim of the glass, and there was a bit of lace here and there. Aroma, though mild, was pleasing, with nice malts present. Caramel sweetness was readily apparent, along with some mild hopping. Body was medium, with a fair smoothness on the tongue.
Solid malt sweetness hit the palate, becoming more satisfying as the bier warmed. Caramel and toffee notes coat the tongue, with a light florality bringing up the rear. It gets a touch bitter at the finish, though always in a positive fashion. Solid, and easily quaffable.
Prosit!!
