Haverhill/Tap seems to have gone downhill quite a bit in the past few years, and I hardly get their beers anymore. This was pretty cheap and I can enjoy a good IPL so hopefully this is at least OK.

Pours a decent fizzy fluffy 1/2 finger head that fades at a med pace, mild lacing, clear pale golden color.

Nose brings noble hop aromas, grassy as hell, mildly earthy and floral, it does get a little spicy and a touch herbal, oily like, with a fair toasted grainy almost husky like malt underneath.

Taste brings some sweet grainy malts out front, toasted and a little sweet amber malt, with a touch of straw like pilsner malt, and some Vienna I think. Into hops, a bit fruity at first, then quickly into the grassy noble flavors, a bit earthy again, and faint herbal notes, a bit of a spicy chewy hop later that gets a bit overpowering for the lager aspect, and that herbal flavor that is a bit meh dominates the back end. Finish is quite bitter, a bit drier and a mild crispness from the lager, a bit of a lager fruit note that is quickly destroyed by the long bitter grassy spicy herbal hops. Touch of warming booze and esters on the finish.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb, touch of warming booze.

Overall meh, not too bad at least, but nothing realy going for it. the noble hop characters are quite nice, grassy hops and slight crisp fruity lager are nice, but the hops just continue into the out of bounds area that is pretty meh, the herbal earthy slight oily vegetal meh hops that dominate and get really bitter kinda ruin the beer a bit.

Good start to the head but it dies to only large rim bubbles. There are a couple of surprising spots on the glass. The liquid is dark gold and slightly cloudy.

The smell is a combination of malted and unmated barleys. Very low level of floral hop in the background.

The taste leans far more to the hop side. I don't detect any of the expected creaminess from most pilsners. I don't pick up on the increased alcohol either. In fact, this really comes across as an IPA. Even the body mimics an ale with a round body.

A-Ignoble pours a mostly clear, orange color. Finger high head of, slightly off-white foam. The head dies off a lot and settles to a thin slash of foam atop the beer. Thin strings of lace.

S-Floral, fragrant hoppiness. Smells just like a hopped-up Maibock. Perfumey hops and a sweetness that balances quite well. Some zesty citrus. Noticeable Lager yeast, that's sweetly fruity.

T-The floral, and perfumey hops are back again. Hops almost taste somewhat woody. They also taste a wee bit soapy. Sweet Maibock malt and yeast combo that reminds me of sugary biscuits.

M-Astringent. Sneakily bitter. A bit hot. Medium bodied with softer carbonation. The label describes it as 'deceitful' and I would agree; it's deceiving bigger richer than I was anticipating.

O-A fairly interesting beer. I don't mind tossing a local brewery some cash. This is a different stab at the hoppy Lager. I feel like a big less booze and a lighter body would help this beer out a bit.
