Drank on tap at Haverhill Brewery & The Tap, Haverhill, MA
Served in a snifter
Super cloudy and pale straw yellow in appearance. The liquid was topped by a tight, bubbly, bright white, one-finger head that faded relatively quickly.
The nose was zesty and quite spicy. Coriander notes dominated. Some clove came through as well. Crisp, lemony and wheaty. Salty. The nose had an almost buttered popcorn note to it, along with a slight sweetness.
The flavor profile was crisp and tart. Super salty, yet still rather enjoyable. Slightly lemony and acidic. Between the tartness and the salty notes, the beer was both refreshing and drying on the palate. Coriander came through in the center, but it was not as intense as in the nose. Some saltiness lingered in the finish. This beer had no hop presence, but it was still remarkably well balanced.
The mouthfeel was medium bodied for the style. Slick and smooth with a fine, mild effervescence.
This is a really interesting take on a gose. Out of the three versions of the style that I have sampled, this is the only one that had such a prominent saltiness. It is an ideal hot weather beer, especially if you are looking for something that is both refreshing and has a bit of character.
