Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a tiny bit of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is intense of a chocolate and coffee smell mixed with some creamy oatmeal and some vanilla. With a touch of a nutty smell and some molasses, the aroma is very rich and inviting, like a oat chocolate dessert bar.
Taste – The taste begins with the chocolate that was detected in the nose, being one the more milk chocolate side of things. Along with this chocolate taste comes flavors of a roasted malt and some oatmeal. There is also some molasses sweetness as well a little bit of vanilla in there as well, which the vanilla flavor later fading as the taste advances. At the same time the chocolate losses some of its sweetness, converting to a more dark chocolate like flavor. At the same time some light coffee and more toasted oatmeal come to the tongue, and with all the flavor transitions that occur, one is left with a toasted and sweet chocolaty and oaty favor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the dark chocolate, and oat flavors of the brew the feel is fantastic and makes for a nice, flavorful, slow sipper.
Overall – A rather pleasant oatmeal stout. One to try if you have the opportunity!
