Dragon's Blood
903 Brewers
Date: Unknown
Berliner Weisse
ABV 6.2
Since it is Christmas, why not turn the clock back to Halloween. I am feeling like drinking a slushy from a mythic creature. Dragon's Blood poured thicky and creamy into a tulip glass. The serving temperature is 42 degrees. A one-finger light pink and foamy head was created with okay retention. The salmon color is off-putting yet elegant. The appearance of the beer is akin to a fruited kettle sour.
The first aromas are vanilla, oak, and guava. Nosing further, I smell floral, sweetness, and lightly toasted malts. I cannot detect the dragon fruit. I have eaten several times; I know it probably will not come through in the nose.
The flavors are interesting; the nose does not reflect what I am tasting. The fruit portion comes out somewhat jagged with vanilla and oak. I tasted the guava and this unique tropical fruit flavor; I suppose it is dragonfruit. I also detect floral, green grass, milk, and sugar.
The mouthfeel is thin, sour, and pithy. The body is medium, has a medium carbonation, and an unpleasant lingering finish.
The dragonfruit killed this beer. It gave the beer a weird texture with no harmony. It is ok, I know 903 does much better.
