Mai Tai Slushy
903 Brewing
Date: Unknown
This is my third foray into the 903 Brewers portfolio. Thus far, one was stellar, and the other was average. I secretly enjoy fruited sour beer; some have depth, some have complexity, some have tons of fruit, and a few have all the above. I poured this beer into tulip glass; the temperature was about 42 degrees. The pour created this light yellowish two-fingered foamy and airy head. The somewhat quick dissipation left bits of fruit and lacing on the glass. The color is similar to orange juice, just a darker yellow; and less orange. The beer has no clarity, but I do see fruit particles.
The aromas in the beer are orange, pineapple, amaretto( smells fake), toasted crackers, fruity sweetness, limes, floral esters, and this odd but weird alcohol Mai Tai scent. The beer smells like you got a super fruity Mai Tai at a bar. Somehow they got the alcohol character in the beer. Frankly, I am surprised and applaud them for doing that.
The fruit in the beer is ripe and pleasant; I taste limes, oranges, pineapple, and a bit of lemon sourness. The amaretto flavoring gets lost; furthermore, it was more fragrant on the nose. The Mai Tai part is there; however, I could not distinguish the alcohol scent through the taste. The Berliner part of the beer comes through pleasantly, giving the beer some backbone and freshness.
The mouthfeel is tart and crisp.
The body is medium, medium carbonation, and finishes moderately.
The beer came together in a unified process; and tastes what the brewers intended. It is refreshing to drink a beer that is not gross or overly processed. This beer has everything one would want depth, complexity, and fruit. I would not mind a few more cans of this delicious beer.
