Fruited Kettle Sour
903 Brewers
Blueberry Crumble
ABV: 6.2%
Date: Unknown
Seventh beer from 903, most of the beer that I have consumed were fruited sours. Most of the beers so far have been well made. I just pulled this beer out of the fridge, and it is 42 degrees. Using my Founder tulip glass to drink this beer. The pour did create a frothy pinkish-purple half-finger head. Poor head retention left bits of fruit on the glass. The color is dark purple and thick, like fruit soup. I am not concerned with the retention; I would have liked to last longer.
When I opened the can, tarty blueberries emitted. Nosing the glass, I smell almonds, shortbread, lightly toasted biscuits, and lemon-like sourness. I am not a fan of fake almond extract. Fortunately, this beer does display that awful aroma.
The almond cookie does not overpower the fruit. The tartiness of the blueberry creates a perfect marriage with the Berliner. The grain profile has a solid backbone, thus allowing the other flavors to bloom.
A thick mouthfeel finishes slightly tarty. Low carbonation shows how heavy the beer is on the palate.
I enjoyed this slushy. Loads of blueberries made this beer delightful. I am happy the almond flavoring was not prevalent. A great beer to start an Easter Sunday.
