Appearance: Pours an opaque dark amber with a moderate, dense and quite persistent, light tan head with very good retention. Lacing is represented by scattered patches of minute bubbles.
Aroma: Roasted malt notes vie with bitter cocoa and a bit of molasses. The alcohol presents slightly in the aroma, offering a mild spicy note.
Taste: On tasting, there is an initial wave wave of milk chocolate and bitter cocoa. Brown sugar and sweet, spicy alcohol soon follow, the latter offering a gracious warmth and no harshness. As the taste progresses, there is a bit of burnt caramel and a surge of molasses. Late in the taste, bitter cocoa vies with milk chocolate for supremacy, the bitter cocoa finally attaining victory after a glorious engagement.
Mouth feel: Soft and very full, with slight carbonation to add interest.
Drinkability/notes: A wonderfully delicious beer that makes for an excellent dessert or a superb pairing with rich chocolate cake, candy or ice cream.
Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a Duvel chalice.
