Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear deep golden color with a big head of fizzy white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is very heavy of a crème and vanilla smell mixed with a slightly yeasty breadiness and some notes of macadamia nut. Along with these aromas comes a decent showing of sweet white chocolate smell as well as some aromas of a pastry smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet caramel and pastry cream ale flavor mixed with some notes of vanilla and a bit of nuttiness. The nuttiness remains light throughout the taste with the sweeter flavors fading as the taste advances. Following the initial taste profile, a touch of a white chocolate flavor comes to the tongue, only to fade away as the flavor profile transitions forward on the tongue. At the end a little bit of grain and some light hay tastes come to the tongue, leaving one with a more modestly sweetened and not too heavy pastry/grainy cream ale taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is medium to slightly lighter, with a carbonation level that is high. A little more body may have been slightly better, potentially augmenting the light cookie tastes of the brew, but overall, the feel was still pretty decent.
Overall – I didn’t know what to expect here. I anticipated something much sweeter, but to my pleasant surprise it was fermented down to a more refreshing and slightly crisper level. While not big on macadamia nut cookie flavor, the subtle cookie flavors matched well the crisp crème ale taste, making for a rather easy drinking brew overall.
