Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a murky brown color with a one finger head of tan foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heavy of a roasted brown wheat bread and yeasty aroma mixed with some nut and overripe bananas. Along with these aromas comes notes of coffee and a bit of bitter cocoa as well as a touch of a milk chocolate and a hint of smoke.
Taste – The taste starts out with a nice roasted and toasted malt flavor that is paired with flavors of molasses and toasted wheat. There is also a decent showing of a nuttiness and some banana and clove from the start with the later two flavors dwindling as the taste advances. At the same time, as the taste advances, the wheat and toasted malt get stronger, all while some flavors of a light leather flavor and some light blackened toast come to the tongue. With a touch of an increase in the molasses and a bit of caramel malt coming in at the end, one is left with a rather dark, but easy natured taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is slightly on the thicker side for a brew of 5.3 % abv. with a carbonation level that is low. For the style the feel is well done accentuating the flavors of the brew rather well.
Overall – A pretty nice dunkel. A little nuttier than most, but rather tasty overall.
