Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a great level of retention, fading slowly over time and leaving tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strong of a bready malt smell mixed with lots of pine and grapefruit. At the same time there are aromas of orange and tangerine as well as some caramel and tropical fruits of papaya and mango. There is a bit of herb and some earth there as well, rounding out the aroma rather nicely.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and drier malt flavor that has just a touch of caramel and tropical fruit sweetness of tangerine and papaya. Right from the start there is a decent showing of pine and a bit of grapefruit and herb. The grapefruit fades as the taste advances, all while the pine and herb get stronger. At the same time there is some herbal hop as well as a bit of alcohol booziness that work their way onto the tongue. There is a light peach taste develops throughout at the expense of some of the tropical fruit, leaving one in the end with a somewhat malty, and quite resinous taste to liner on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is quite thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the big resinous and boozy tastes, a slightly thinner body may have made it easier drinking, but overall the feel was pretty decent.
Overall – A big resinous IPA with a thicker malt and warming feel. A rather fun sipper and one to at least give a try to.
