I had this on tap at the Starlight Theater in Terlingua Texas. I thought it was much better than the ratings given here. Dark gold color, white head, decent lacing and head retention. Aroma and taste feature moderate bitterness and a lot of grapefruit. A citrusy west-coast style IPA. Nice balance between malt and bitterness. Mouthfeel is on the light side, crisp with enough bitterness. I enjoyed a pint with Tex-Mex food.

I like this on a hot day. Kinda mild as IPA's go but it grew on me and now I turn to this as a regular refresher. The brewery has halted production of this IPA pending some issues over the name. I am anxious to see what the "new " name will be and even more anxious to start stocking up once production resumes.

Appearance: hazy golden orange. Head is minimal. Poured into tulip glass (once I saw the weak ratings here and decided to add my 2 cents). Fairly clingy lacing. Looks decent overall.

Aroma: Not over the top, but quite pungent. Piney, a bit grassy and floral, faintly some citrus as well as some booziness detected by my amateur nose.

Taste: VERY similar to the NB Voodoo Ranger IPA (not the Imperial, the regular), which I do enjoy. Nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. Does not seem as bitter as the stated 71 IBU. I can almost taste the boozy edge (+.8%) that this one has over the New Belgium, especially as it warms. Overall, quite good...heavier on the pine than it is on the fruit, which tends more towards the citrus than the tropical spectrum. Resinous with some subtle fruitiness. Nice complexity, imo. Nothing glaring out of place--very drinkable.

Mouth Feel: medium-light body, which I think fits this ale well. Resinous and coating, with a noticeable warming from the alcohol as it goes down. A good balance with a detectable reminder of the 7.8% abv.

Overall: I like it. Not quite a "wow" IPA, but it's definitely good and something I would indeed buy again. Almost seems like an emulation of the Voodoo Ranger IPA, but with a little more warmth. It's one of those IPA's where the hops and the malts dance a tango, sharing the spotlight, with neither becoming the star of the (enjoyable) show. If the price is the same, I think I would choose this over its NB counterpart, if only because it's newer to me and has a bit more warmth.

Notes: I'm not very well versed in proper beer lingo, as I'm new to reviewing. The freshness by date is unknown, 'canned on' date not legible. Also, no mention online of what hops and malts go into this solid IPA, but I'm thinking Amarillo, Mosaic, Cascade, and other hops could be in the mix. Malt-wise, possibly a mix of pale and black. A 'B+' overall, nearing an A- (as it's rather good and worth trying if you're an IPA fan and get the chance). If the reviews on this one here are low, don't let that assuage you from trying this tasty IPA from west Texas! Much enjoyed. Cheers!

Pours a clear yellow golden color with white head. Citrus, pine, and some floral notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with pine and citrus, typical IPA, good not great.
