You have two type of Kaisers, Urtyp and Fasstyp - at least as far as I know. Urtyp stands for “original type” and fasstyp is for “on the tap” so I’d say this one is like a draft. Don’t recall Urtyp but this one is nice. Looks okay, liked the aroma, kind of bready and the taste is okay until a sudden aftertaste hits you - but it doesn’t hit you hard. Was just interesting in the beginning. But then the more you drink it, the aftertaste is gone in about two or three more sips and the beer turns into a nice, medium-bodied lager. Just liie most Austrian beers, this one is also a bargain AND it is a decent beer. Don’t really have anything against it. Yep, would (and maybe even will) buy it again.

Really enjoy Austrian beer in general and this one is another solid effort from the Austrians. Not in the same class as Steigl Goldbrau but still a fine beer.

05/21/2016 2nd impression from a can purchased in Sofia, Bulgaria (the 3.80% version, as "Kaiser Bier.")

Fizzy dull yellow insipid schlock. Overcarbonated to boot.

-low head retention and under carbonated
-clear light gold
-smells nice and clean, well balanced aroma
-quite a bit of malt sweetness up front (too much for my taste)
-flavor is really one dementional, but I'm starting to think that's an Austrian thing...
-too much malt sweetness to call it sessionable, too little anything else to call it interesting

.5L emptied into a Pokal.

A: Pours a pale gold with a fluffy 2-finger head which quickly receeds to a thin ring. Good lacing in the upper third of glass.

S: Light sweet malt, grassy hops.

M: Light-to-medium bodied with decent carbonation.

T: Sweet, grainy malt with mildly bitter hops. Fruit and caramel notes through the midrange. Slightly dry finish with a mildly astringent aftertaste.

D: Not hateful, but certainly a macro designed for mass-market appeal. So that means it's boring. Drink it, but don't expect to savor it.

A very rocky creamy head tops this deep straw and very clear Bier. The aroma is upfront sulphury and dominates however is all in all mild. The malt aroma is light and slight acidic/sourness was present although at low levels. The body is medium to light and mostly malty. The flavor is pretty basic and has some yeast sulphur products to speak of. Not great but not bad....

Zum Wohl!

I picked this up on a ski vacation in Austria. Came in a standard brown half liter bottle with a red, white and gold label with a royal-looking coat of arms held by two lines. I assume the purity law, although the label makes no such claim. Best before 5/5/5, I opened it on 2/23/05.

Pours a clear bubbly greenish gold under a one finger white head with some contour and a bit of lace. The nose is adjunct grainy, with a rice texture to it. The mouth is very prickly and quite thin. The taste opens with a sweet plum twinge in the malt, followed by an ever so slight hoppy bitterness in the finish. Very plain and uninspiring, Globetrotterette took one sip and said "It's like Russian beer." (That's not meant as a complement!)
