I'm not overly familiar with this brewery, but I do love pecans and honey, so I figured why not. Plus, it's never a bad idea to try and support the local breweries, and Seguin, TX is just a few miles east of San Antonio.
Pours a light hazy brown color with a decent off-white head. Some lace, but not much. Not what I'd call a pretty beer, but you could certainly argue that it closely resembles the color of pecans. The nose is very nondescript. Nutty and bready, with faint dark fruit, but there's not much here to be honest. The taste follows suit, with a thin flavor that echoes fruitcake. I detect a bit of nuttiness here, and yes the sweetness is apparent but it's hard to discern honey. It does open up a bit as it warms to room temp, though, which is nice. Mouthfeel is thin.
I really wanted to like this beer more. It's got such potential, and honestly if I'd brewed this at home I would be thrilled. But I've grown to expect so much more from craft breweries these days. So many small breweries are doing such great work, it's disappointing when some don't live up to expectations. That said, I'll continue trying beers from BS Brewing in hopes that they have other brews that are better. Cheers.
