A big beer with a nice balance between malt and hops. Generous amounts of crystal and specialty malts along with 50 pounds of brown sugar contribute to the malty profile.

Pours a clear, dark amber color. Decent retention and good lacing. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Smells of sweet malt, slight hops, some yeast aromas, and a hint of alcohol. I know that the category of Strong Ale is a "catch-all" category but one characteristic under BA's description is a 7.0 ABV or above. This beer clearly does not have that so, I guess it does not fit the category of an American Strong Ale. Mouth feel was smooth and slightly thick with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt up front, slight alcohol flavors come through some hop noticeable in the background. Overall, a very smooth beer with a nice finish and a good blend of malt and hops, but as far as I'm concerned this is a very weak American Strong Ale.
