This brew is our Baltic Porter with 20% of the base malt as rye malt. The roasted and dark malts tend to stand out a little more as the rye lightens the malt profile. A tasty dark brew for the Porter and dark beer fan. Hopping is low at 15 IBU's, using UK Admiral hops for bittering only. Ringwood yeast was used for fermentation.

A. Pours a deep brown, near black with very little head. While it does not let the smallest amount of light through, the beer looks thick and sticky.
S. Strong smell of coffee and roasted malt. The malt sweetness is very evident, but the rye seems to be lacking, and it smells of an aftertaste more like a Baltic Porter than an American Porter.
T. Sweet and smooth with a bolder roasted malt taste in the middle and a hint of rye in the finish. The extra sweetness would indicate the addition of a non-fermentable sugar. There is a slight yeast character, and even less hop character.
M. What little carbonation this beer had faded quickly. It appeared to be thicker than it really was which was disappointing.
D. Very drinkable but not what I expected from a Rye Porter. It was thin and not at all filling but still there was very little rye character. A decent beer but not spectacular in any way.

A - Poured a jet black color with a very small, off-white head. It left some patchy lace.
S - It smelled of coffee, chocolate and rich, roasted malt. There was a touch of floral hop presence.
T - It leads off with good coffee flavor and cocoa. The rye flavor is very mild and a little buried under some sweet malt.
M - It was pretty crisp and sharp with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. A light to medium-bodied beer.
D - This is a pretty good porter. I wish the rye flavor was stronger but it is still a very quaffable porter.

Pours a black color. 1/3 inch head of a pale tan color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of roasted malt, coffee, slight sweet malt, slight yeast, slight hop, and slight grain. Fits the style of an American Porter. Tastes of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, slight yeast, slight hop, slight alcohol, and a hint of coffee. Overall, the rye is lost somewhat, but by and far this is a good porter. If I had one more complaint, it would be that it is too cloying.
