On draught at the brewery. Pint pour. The color is almost black with dark cola hues and a creamy, ecru-colored head with long-lasting lacing. It was served cold and the smell suffered although it improved as the glass warmed. It features roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and light floral hops. The taste opens with fairly bitter hops (I wish they were identified on the menu), followed by roasted malt, burnt coffee, earthy char, and just a hint of anise. The flavors blend nicely. This ale is medium-bodied with pleasant carbonation, and the 7% ABV is enough to provide character without distracting. Overall, considering that I seek out and savor Black IPAs, I enjoyed Dark, Dank and Ominous. For the product of a small, out-of-the-way brewpub it's impressive: it's well-brewed, flavorful, and it works really well with the pub cuisine.

Dark IPA with skunky hop character and a slight bitter malt bill. Overall a decent complexity of hops and specialty malt. One of the better "black IPA's" I've had to date.
