This is described as a "hoppy Hefeweizen." On tap at the brewery. Great fragrance and highly drinkable.
Cloudy lemon color in the tall tulip with abundant foam to start. Makes for a sprightly mouthfeel. Big aroma of the German spicy esters. Cloves are distinct but there is a brighter, more citrusy flavor. The hops are zingy with a rich tropical fruit flavor that comes through in the nose. Malty and on the sweet side.
I like the fruity notes but it's just a little too bitter. Simcoe and Nelson Sauvin are the hops, according to the brewer. Belgian yeast provides more bitterness. This seems like a style worth exploring. Why not more hop aromatics in a wheat beer. Why not mingle German and Belgian yeasty flavors? It makes for an abundance of competing flavors but the right hop would be a nice addition to the brewing repertoire.
