Pitch black and opaque with only a slight trace of lighter colored edges and a one finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Sporadic splotchy lacing left behind.
Spicy autumnal aroma with pumpkin pie spices integrated into the roast and silky dessert-like sweetness of the base beer. Allspice, clove, pepper, nutmeg, vanilla, ginger and pumpkin purée followed by gourmet coffee beans, toast, oatmeal and silky chocolate notes. Smells pretty nice.
Flavor profile is very similar to the aroma with a stronger coffee presence. Still, the earthy spices and sweet pumpkin purée dominate the palate with heavy allspice, clove, pepper, nutmeg and pumpkin flesh. The pumpkin pie notes are countered by a complex malt bill with a nice balance of roast and lighter dark malt sweetness. Gourmet coffee bean with oatmeal, toast and bittersweet dark chocolate followed by tootsie roll, German chocolate cake, caramel and toffee. I'm usually not a fan of pumpkin flavored stouts but this one is pretty solid.
