650ml capped bottle, snifter glass. Pours a forebodingly opaque dark black body, one finger offwhite head, good retention, no lacing. Good legs on this one. Smell is massively frontloaded, middle-loaded and backloaded with maple sweetness and chocolate fudge, with a fairly solid bourbon barrel presence all the way through. Decadently sweet and aromatic. The coffee is fairly minimal on the nose even as it warms. Flavour follows. The maple sweetness is kept somewhat in check by the bourbon barrel- a little bit of oak helps, but is also accentuated in some ways by the barrel which adds a vanillin flavour to it, a fair bit of dark chocolate, oats and caramel. A big stout for sure, and again, the coffee is drowned out by all of the other sweet components. To get this beer to the next level (e.g. KBBS), there ought to be a bigger coffee presence, with a little bit more roast to it. Either way, the body is all there and appropriately full bodied with appropriate carbonation. One of the better Monster's Park variants out there.
