On tap at the Belmont Fermentorium.
Black, think dark brown head. Smoky, today, caramel like with vanilla, bourbon, toffee, buckwheat honey, a little dark fruit, coffee, cream, dark chocolate. The palate opens with the smoke complementing the sweetness, mild caramel, moderate bitterness, a nice barrel expression. Outrageous full body, soft, creamy and remarkably balanced. Moderately boozy too, in a nice bourbon and vanilla way. Delightful. Given the description, expecting a smoky stout is reasonable, but this isn't all that smoky. Maple does add some sweetness, but unfortunately, the Lapsang Suchong isn't all that noticeable. Still, the smoke goes a long way towards balancing the palate.
