This Festbier, wildly tasty in its first form (a collaboration with Heater Allen Brewing), has reached new heights of radness via a three and a half month stay in medium-toast American oak foeders. This 5% iteration has acquired lovely oak and vanilla notes, adding to the already-stellar profile of honeysuckle, allspice and biscuit.

Pours from the stovepipe a light caramel tan with solid foam. Rich malty aroma, with caramel notes, some vanilla and hints of tobacco even. The oaky-notes from the foeder really shine on the palate. It’s incredibly delicious, delicate and light. Fantastic beer.

Had on tap. Clear dark amber with an off-white cap, lazing lacing. The foeder molds the smell with oak, vanilla, caramel, slight tartness, leading, with subtle tones of earth. In the taste however the underlying marzen doesn't really hold up, resulting in a malty and watery foeder oak and vanilla/caramel flavors. Feel is watery, oaky, and strangely sweet feeling in the finish. Clearly the feel is the real culprit that undercuts the taste. Cool idea, but execution was mixed to say the least

Can from The Belmont Fermentorium.
A clear light copper with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing this looks good. The nose is a delicious lighter marzen, with a bready, mildly caramel like flavor, a little toast, some sweetness, a soft, wood conditioned note with vanilla. Mild floral notes, a touch of honey and orange blossom.
The palate opens mildly bitter with earth and a little wood, followed by a nice, deep bready and caramel flavor. While the sweetness is restrained, flavors reminiscent of bread pudding, a little vanilla, toasted white bread, honey. The mouthfeel is excellent. Soft , creamy with lingering flavors of bread and caramel. A light touch of vanilla is also present. Nice stuff.
