(2024 notes) - Island Tones is BACK! This Imperial Stout Blend (Mega Devil's Teeth & Modem Tones, both aged ~4 years in Rhum Agricole, Three Chiefs Collab in Bourbon, aged about 3 years) was aged nearly four years in oak.
We took this amazing base and added a blend of Toasted Coconut Flakes, Macaroon-Cut Coconut Flakes, and raw coconut, creating a decadent array of coconut dessert goodness. We then added Okinawan Black Sugar—this is sugar made from cane grown on Volcanic soil. After harvest and pressing, the sugarcane juice is boiled for many hours in open-top copper kettles. It's hugely complex.

22 oz bomber into snifter
This one is definitely pushing the limits of drinkability, as it’s just a sugar bomb. But it works for what it’s trying to do. Marshmallow, coconut, all over the place. If you’ve ever sucked on raw sugar cane, the first touch of the palate is a lot like this. Aromas are typical MT Modem Tones.
Probably a little too rich and sweet for my tastes, but does what it’s trying to do.

Baker's and dark chocolate, some bourbon barrel heat, a hint of Malibu Coconut Rum booziness, and a creamy coconut nose on this one! Taste follows exactly with a sweet, coconut candy upfront, and then a coconut rum boozy finish. As it warms, things fall into place and are more balanced...the upfront sweetness gets supported by some nice barrels used here! This could be a touch thicker and viscous, but this is really delicious!

Dark black body, maybe a touch of brown hue. Rum, cane sugar, lots of coconut. Mainly the sweeter variety, less so the toasted kind. Sweet. Full bodied. A touch of whiskey, lingering rum heat. Lower carbonation. Liked but not loved because of the rum.

Bottle at share. Black pour, small ring of beige head. Aroma and taste is chocolate, roasty malts, bourbon barrel with a hint of vanilla. Taste is sweet and sticky, coconut showing up, vanilla too. Really nice.

Can’t say I’m feeling this one, my minions. It’s just way too sticky sweet and slick like a cargo ship full of Hersheys or whatever hit an iceberg. Does that sound good to you? Even the seagulls would be over this one.
Peace.
