This imperial stout powerhouse consists of a masterful blend of Infinity Gauntlet (batches aged 10 Months in bourbon barrels AND aged in oak foeders, then bourbon barrels for 6 months) & Oblivion Ring (aged 6 months in bourbon barrels). This tasty potion was then treated to 2lb/bbl of bourbon barrel-aged Tanzania coffee (known for its berry-like sweetness) and 3lb/bbl of Brazilian cacao nibs. The finished beverage is wonderfully oaky, which is perfectly complemented by the natural, cedar notes of the coffee & decadence of the cacao. It’s a splendid flavor tapestry ready to be hung on your proverbial wall & admired accordingly.

My wife broke out of her wine/tequila/KetelOne rut tonight & pulled this 22 ouncer from the fridge to split. I raised a fine wife.
The pour is very dark with dulled crimson around the edges & a nose cocoa, bourbon, & fire.
Altar of the Orc Lord – Bourbon Barrel with Cocoa & Barrel Aged Coffee (ain’t that two mouthfuls) just tickles my nineteen-year-old dungeon master self. And yeah, I was really good at it. Big bourbon dominates up front along with a cedar plank upside the palate. Then things get weird, & by weird, I mean an accumulation of tastiness. Soft coffee intertwined with lingonberry & cocoa, caramel running through to the finish, & a maltiness that’s light & refreshing. Smooth as a well loved rubber duckie. I could have taken this alone. Easy.
The added ingredients really bring out the kick-ass in this barleywine. I found the base bourbon barrel aged Altar to be good – this kicks it up at least two levels (with corresponding hit point gains). Stellar.

Bottle at share. Dark brown pour, beige ring of head. Malty, sweet aroma, chocolate. Taste is chocolate, light notes of coffee and a nice helping of booze

22 oz bomber into a snifter
OK, this is such a witch’s brew, I’m not even going to attempt to parse all of the flavors…
Dark, cloudy, leathery looking brew, super viscous. All kinds of toasty, roasty undertones in the nose, with a good deal of bourbon to boot. Flavors follow, with a truck load of vanilla and cocoa and unsweetened coffee. Problem is the various components don’t meld very well. Interestingly, with a lot of MT’s coffee beers, the coffee is noticeable, but so well blended it works with the other ingredients to form a singular flavor on the palate. Not so here. Coffee notes stand out like sore thumb.
It’s not bad to drink, but hopelessly disjointed and splashy, where all of the flavor aspects are trying to pull your palate in their own selfish direction.

Pours a dark, garnet-tinted amber with a thin finger of soupy, tan head that quickly dissipates into a messy crown.
Caramel, fig, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and just a hint of coffee bitterness in the very “sticky-smelling” aroma.
Similar mixture of sweet flavors in the taste, with a little modest leather and almond addition added to the mix. Slight coffee shows in the finish, intermingling with vanilla, fig, raisin, plum and chocolate in the aftertaste.
Viscous, sticky, full mouthfeel with strong fizz cutting through.
This is a great example of one of the new-school barleywines. A real treat to nurse on a winter morning.
