This powerhouse was born of two of our first-ever bourbon barrel-aged beers from Belmont: Cosmic Entity and Temple of Silence (hence, Cosmic Silence). A masterful balance of both beers, it features a robust body with thoroughly delightful notes of chocolate, followed by the oaky character from the bourbon barrels, and finishes with a subtle sweetness. If this is the caliber of beveragery we have to look forward from our PDX blend-wizards, we’re in for a whole lot of impending tastiness.

Pours a very deep, rich, oily black. Nose is milk chocolate, some oaky barrel and vanilla. Taste follows suit with an off soy sauce/vinegar note. Pretty one dimensional beyond that. Not much barrel in the sip. Feel is medium thin at best. Not exactly what I was expecting.

Yippee, Modern Times! Breaking out this 22 oz. bottle in celebration of five more barrel aged bombers of this stuff landing today. It’s a good day. Split with my wife.
Black pour, low-life/lowlife on top. Nose is chocolate, bourbon, roast, all quiet.
Cosmic Silence sounds delightful, like the null noise of the Boundary Waters at black midnight watching the stars. The taste mirrors the nose plus: bourbon & booze in the foreground & I can feel the latter eating into my sternum. Heavy chocolate mid-palate with additions of graham cracker, char, black sugar. Thick. Put this in boots & shove it into my face.
Have had a couple of these lately, throwback barrel aged stouts with zero additions. When done well, and/or done by stellar breweries, these are works of art. This is one. Excellent brew.

Viscous slate black body with a light brown ring. The nose is simpler yet passionate: bourbon, chocolate fudge, caramel, toasty and vanillin laden oak. Taste however opens up a dream world of all of those flavors from the nose plus light amounts of brown batter, semi-sweet chocolate, fig, coconut, marshmallow dipped in fudge and milk chocolate, all in orbit of the barrels, char, and molasses. Nothing obnoxious, tastefully complex. Feel is not that heavy at all thought, chewy and warm but not viscous, hides abv very well. This was the surprise of the year so far! The wife loved it
