One of the weakest and worst examples of the styles I've ever had from a major craft player. I love and rep Cali, but I give up on Modern Times. Not worth even trying.

Can poured into a Modern Times Beer glass

A: Pours dark mahogany brown with a frothy khaki head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.

S: Earthy roasty char, a hint of smoke, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, light coconut, toasty bready malt, faint dark fruit, and toffee sweetness.

T: Roasty, earthy char, a little coffee, bittersweet chocolate, soft coconut, faint hints of dark fruit, toasty crusty bread, and toffee sweetness.

M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, mild to moderate carbonation, chewy.

O: First few sips came off a little rough around the edges with mostly earthy char, muted coconut, and toffee showing up. As it warmed things came together to help round it out, but it feels like it could use something to really bring it home, like a little vanilla or a touch of lactose and lighter caramel sweetness to brighten it up. As it sits now it's fine, but definitely nothing special. Might work well in a beer float with some vanilla ice cream.

Pours a brownish black with a finger of tan head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring with little lacing. Aroma of coconut and roast malt. Taste follows nose. On the thin side.

Pours dark brown into a tulip glass. It produces very little head. What there is tends to be tan colored and recede to a thin ring. Definite change in character when sampled right after pour vs. about 5-10 minutes later after the fizzy carbonation has dissipated and the temperature warms a bit. Upon warming there is more coconut and dark roasted malty characteristics, but to me this is a bit on the thin side with regard to body and the look is not impressive, There are a lot of outstanding stouts and this isn't one of them, IMO
