Pouring the beer from a cellar temp 22 oz bottle into my snifter. The beer pours a black coffee dark black color with no light passing through my glass.
A very short lived fizzy tan head foams up about.5 cm and is gone very quickly, leaving a thin edging on the glass.
Aroma is dark chocolate, whisky barrel notes, fusol booze, a little bit of apple note, hints of maple and a bit of a medicinal quality, which may actually be the booziness. Hops are not present in this beer nose.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with a bit of sticky texture and spacious, almost still carbonation. Immediate booziness and heat hit me on this first swallow. Ill circle back to the flavor, but wow!! THis is gonna be a sipper for sure! Were direct shots of liquor added to the bottle? havent flinched from sipping a beer in quite a while, and this one did it!
Flavor is sweet chocolate, caramel, toffee and maple syrup sweetness. I get some rich whisky notes, and then booze takes over with some black pepper bite and heat. Woo! This is a sipper for sure, gonna take quite a while to finish my glass.
Im glad to have tried this one, sort of wonder if the booze would be more mellow in a year or three. would gladly stash a bottle for that time period if anyone has an extra sitting around.
