Decahex was our tenth anniversary beer, brewed around 2.5ish years ago.

The goal of this beer was to be a MEGA rendition of Mega Devil’s Teeth, allowing its own uniqueness to show, while doubling down on the biscuit/bready notes of the beloved stout. We aged it in some of the very best barrels we had, 10-year Bourbon Barrels! When we were done, we had an incredible beer already, but we didn’t stop there... we proceeded to dose this to the gills with nearly 50 pounds per barrel of Coconut. It is pure coconut chocolate candy, a megalith of a beer.

absurd stuff from one of the best at doing these kinds of stouts, been a tough couple of years for the company and that has been well documented, but i think its still awesome they are putting things out at this level, happy to have them whenever i can, still a big fan of their liquid, and this is really special, a huge stout in fancy bourbon barrels with an ungodly amount of coconut, and its over the top in the best way, beyond rich and decadent to almost sinful, but delicious and high end, glad i got to participate! this is impossibly thick, still shiny but also i swear i actually see coconut flecks in it, no real head, leggy as they come, wow this is intimidatingly big. the nose and taste do the same thing, how can they not, and i think despite how flavored this is, its important to acknowledge how good the stout itself is, long boiled for sure, reduced to the point of being almost a syrup, but with elite level chocolate notes, dark and sweet, wet tobacco and molasses richness, and a pleasant alcohol warmth befitting of its colossal abv, and the bourbon sure adds a lot, almost seems like good vanilla extract is blended in, the barrel char adds cool bitterness, and there would be toasted coconut notes in this even without coconut being added, some licorice, late spice, and coffee coziness too. the coconut is oily even fatty on the palate, long and saturated and really bold, but it also seems to carry some of its own bitterness so this really isnt all that sweet as these go, kind of neat. heavy umami among the coconut richness, bourbon plays it up really well as does the intense oaken heft. chocolate covered and really adult, dutch cocoa, baked coconut everywhere, and some late bittering balance, i cant believe how coconut forward this is, how well it warms up, and how great it is overall. this is about as good as this sort of thing gets for me, on the edge of too much, but boy does it taste good. good to see modern times still doing their thing in this style space they have been a leader in for so long, this is tip top!

Semi-sweet 50% dark chocolate, a whiff of floral vanilla, coconut flakes, and a prominent bourbon barrel boozy nose on this one! Taste follows with a thick yet soft, chocolate and coconut, and balanced bourbon barrel boozy finish. Yum! As it warms, a little more booziness appears at the end of the swallow. Outside of that, I'm loving the fact that this has coconut floaties! Floaties for the win!
