Interesting little Belgian red ale from Rhinegeist from a growler via
Jungle JIm's Eastgate. This nice little ale pours a bright reddish brown
with a moderate head of white foam that settles to a thin ring and layer
with light lacing. Nose of sweet malts, light stone fruits, candy malts, and
light herbal notes. Flavors lightly exceed the nose with candy sugars (dark)
and stone fruit notes of light under ripened peaches mixing with medium
grain notes that are a touch strong on the rear with a light herbal hop note.
Nice body, medium mouth feel, medium high carbonation that is effervescent
and lively, and a lightly dry finish. Overall, a decent red ale with light Belgian
influences that is a touch high on the carbonation scale for the style but
still nice as a "hybrid" brew of Fiction.
Cheers

Fruity Belgian yeast ester aroma, dominates by pear and green apple.
Flavor is lightly grainy, a touch fruity, and has a lightly bitter finish. Malt is lightly caramelly.

Billed as "Belgian Red", the Rhinegeist brewers bring together the styles of dubbed ale, Irish red ale and Belgian pale ale for a uniquely skilled beer that's as food-friendly as it is bright with character all on its own.
Asterix is a russet brown pour, reminisce of rust. With a head of creamy ecru hues, the nose hovers to pick up elements of toast, nuts, apple, peppercorn, floral notes and an initial taste of steely caramels.
As the ale unfolds on the palate, its delicate floral upstart turns fruity. Apple, a berry medley and red currant hints toward wine until the toasty dryness suggests grain. Carmel, chestnut and an off-cola flavor cast a brittle-like pleasure. Trending dry and spicy, a vinous alcohol presence affirms a finish of rose wine with fresh-cracked peppercorns.
Medium bodied throughout, the beer's creamy and cakey upstart has a firm starchy texture, wavering only late as its wine-like acidity, grapefruity hops and peppery taste ensures a malty-dry finish with aftertaste of toast and citrusy bitterness.
