As a great way to celebrate new and exciting hop combinations, or just an opportunity to move along unused hops, Rhinegeist put together the hops of Sabro, Cascade and El Dorado varieties for an IPA of the candied green fruit variety.
Experimental #001 pours a light golden hue before crowning with a white and foamy cap. As a scent of under ripened citrus, young tropical fruit and a bevy of herbal aromas roll off of the rim. Light on sweetness, hints of agave, light bread and honeysuckle add a supple maltiness early on the tongue.
As the hops blossom on the middle palate, the individual taste of white grapefruit, orange and lemon come to mind first. Not to be outdone, the flavors of passionfruit, light pineapple and gooseberry offer a tropical twinge. Hinting toward a tarter tone, the beer's green fruit character has a slight powdered sugar softness before rounding out with a botanical bite of sassafras, cedar, fresh spruce and lemon balm.
Medium light in body, the light hop acidity and fully attenuated character ensures a drier, crisper and more refreshing session, finishing moderately bitter with hop resins and lingering with green tea, peppery greens and lemongrass.
