A new (at the time of this writing) experimental beer from Rhinegeist Brewing that brings robust tropical flavor with surprisingly light body.
I purchased a growler at a local establishment for $19, which is a bit steep for a local brew but I was too intrigued by the sample to pass it up. The beer pours a (much lighter than expected) golden hue. The head is a fairly stark white and dissipates quickly, though I will note that this could be my glassware (crystal DOF glass) and the growler.
The beer has a thin nose. If I try hard enough, I get a warm pineapple and a mélange of other tropical fruits (maybe papaya?).
The taste follows, but with more punch. There's a beautiful caramelized fruit flavor here. If you've grilled pineapple, I think you'll recognize what I mean. It's sweet and almost savory, nutty and smooth. Some milder tropical fruit lingers on the palate.
Surprisingly, the feel is reasonably light. There is a boozy feel, but it fades quickly.
In general, I would say that this is, despite the ABV, a great summer beer. My only advice would be to drink it in shorter pours. As it warms, the booze opens quickly, which tends to distract from the other flavors.
