A - Super hazy orange body, with lots of silt. Head pours white, huge and billowing, but the silt leaves orange streaks. These become the primary color of the lacing, which is rather unique.
S - Standard issue sour, fruity funk with wood aspects. The wildness is there, but the acidity become the front.
T - More fruit, less funk. Mango is not particularly distinct, but I can see the sour-sweet fruit’s fingerprints on the flavors that survive the aging. A pleasant snappy finish.
M - Carbonation is huge here, prickly and scrubbing. Clean close.
O - A delicious beer, with nicely crafted pungent funkiness. Solid.

As the sour ale program at Rhinegeist continues to strengthen, their patience is paying off. The addition of mangos to an eight month barrel aged sour ale allows the sourness, succulence and subtle funky freshness to emerge in a taste that has one foot in traditional Belgium and one foot in today's crazy beer market.
Metaphysical Mango emerges from the Outer Reaches series with hazy peachy gold color that applies a matte finish on the glass. Its volumptuous ivory froth highlights the beer's expressive carbonation and its tangy, peppery scent. Tropical fruits are on the precipice of the nose, along with citrus, cider, wine and an oaken, musty perfume. Supple sweetness transfers to the tongue with hard candy, simple syrups, a wheaten undertow and a light pep of honey.
But the malt sweetness is soon an afterthought. as the natural fruitiness seduces the middle palate with sharp aspects of lime, crabapple, lemon, white grape and gooseberry. As the mangos quickly gain command of the taste, its tropical flavors bring out a papaya, guava and apricot character before the mild earthiness of pepper, brine, nutty oak and vinous spice takes an edge off of the fruit and assists with a balance of the fleeting malt.
Light, arid and crisp on the palate, the beer's nearly eruptive carbonation pops on the tastebuds and pushes the beer into a fast finish of fruit and peppery funk once more. A brief aftertaste of sourdough and sangria come to mind as another drink quickly beckons.
