With reverential intent and an effervescent yawp, we begin. A Sour Blonde Ale, Infinite Dawn balances tangerine, pear, and apple aromas, with subtle rays of vanilla, oak, and sourness. It is where we were, where we are, and where we hope to be — the outer reaches.

Brewed in the Belgian cherry ale style, Rhinegeist adopts a spontaneous mindset when putting together their latest Outer Reaches beer, but also shows tremendous patience with twelve months of barrel aging.
With generous additions of Balaton and Montmorency cherries, Infrared Eclipse catches the eye with a pale maroon and mauve hue. A quick rise and fall of a sprite rosy froth leaves the beer looking the part of sparkling wine soon enough. A nose tingling scent of tart pitted fruit decorates a musty, earthy, souring and woodsy scent in wine-like fashion once again. Scant sweetness skirts the tongue with wafer, hard candy and light crusted breads in initial impressions.
But the focus immediately shifts to the cherries as a splash of cherry juices offer up a robust red currant, red grape and cranberry display. But those strong cherry overtones are a perfect overlay for the undercurrent of grapefruit, lime and other dried citrus flavors. Weathered fruit, worn woods and a peppery balance gives the ale roundness and complexity while a retro-olfactory character of attic-like must, leather and a mossy nuance.
Light in body, Infrared Eclipse flirts dangerously close with becoming thin and watery, but quickly cleans itself up with a dry, peppery and balsa-like, powder-fine arid finish and a brief cherry echo shortly afterwards.
